Continuing the Muchelney Pottery Tradition
Mark first joined Muchelney Pottery in 1991 where he trained for three years with John Leach and Nick Rees before spending time in West Africa doing VSO and then setting up his own pottery near Bath. In 2002 he returned to Muchelney as a full time member of the crew. After John died in 2021 he became the sole potter’ responsible for producing the complete kitchenware range and carrying on the Muchelney Pottery legacy.

Inspired by African and English Traditions, Made in Somerset
Mark’s personal work sees him regularly experimenting with form and surface decoration with influences coming from African and English country pottery. He has a small workshop space where he throws his personal work and then fires it alongside the kitchenware pots in the three-chambered woodfired kiln, reaching temperatures of 1320 degrees centigrade giving his pots their beautiful rich glazes.

Master Potter
In 2024 Mark had two pots acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London as part of their permanent ceramics collection.
A selection of Mark’s work can always be found for sale at Muchelney Pottery.
