Description

Handcrafted Stoneware for Slow, Succulent Roasts

This handcrafted chicken brick from Muchelney Pottery brings the timeless art of slow cooking into the heart of your home. Made to hold approximately a 2kg chicken, it’s ideal for roasting chicken and potatoes together — capturing moisture, sealing in flavour and producing tender meat with golden skin, all with no mess.

But it’s not just for chicken. This versatile piece is equally suited to slow-roasting brisket, ham joints, or a well-seasoned beef joint. Let it gently cook away, delivering deep, satisfying flavour and the joy of traditional kitchen craft.

For Aga owners, this is a must-have. Its lidded design makes it the perfect companion for the Aga’s bottom oven — letting your meal cook slowly and evenly while you get on with your day. It’s a beautiful way to make the most of gentle, radiant heat.

Each chicken brick is hand-thrown and fired in our wood kiln here in Somerset. The flames naturally shape the finish, leaving each piece with its own markings — a quiet testament to the fire’s touch and the potter’s hand. It’s oven-to-table cookware at its finest: rustic, functional, and full of character.

Our pots are safe for use in conventional and microwave ovens (not suitable for hob use), and dishwasher safe. All glazes are lead-free.

Using your Chicken Brick

Brush the inside of the base with oil and put in hot oven with nothing in it so that the meat is less likely to stick. The first few times of use, put grease-proof paper under meat as well. Allow 10 extra minutes cooking time to heat up the brick. Some people remove the lid for the last 10 minutes to brown the chicken breast. Wash out with very hot water, no detergent, and pat dry with paper towels. The brick will darken with use.
